Report: Perry Fewell good bet to return to Giants in '12

Speculation mounted in New York this season that Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell would not return.

All indications now, however, are that he will return as Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports that Fewell actually signed a one-year extension last offseason that will carry him through the 2012 season.

Fewell’s defense has not performed as well this season but as the report indicates the Giants have been playing their best ball of the season at the right time. Now, barring something unexpected Fewell should be back for a third season directing the defense for Tom Coughlin. Injuries certainly have been a factor in some of the struggles earlier this season.

Fewell was a hot name as a head-coaching candidate at this time last year. There have not been indications he will hit the interview circuit again this year.
