Report: Police investigation into Lake Delton incident nearly over
Lake Delton, Wis., will not turn into Milledgeville, Ga.
Not when it comes to investigating an alleged sexual assault involving an NFL player and determining a path from there.
Lake Delton, Wis., police are investigating the claims of two women, who say they were sexually assaulted at a condo party in the south central Wisconsin resort area early Saturday. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the investigation focuses on cornerback Brandon Underwood, a sixth-round draft pick from Cincinnati in 2009.
Apparently, it comes down to a case of he says, she says, she says, and Police Chief Tom Dorner said all of his interviews have been completed and that he would present the case to the district attorney on Monday or Tuesday. It will be up to that office to determine if charges will be filed in the case. Ben Roethlisberger's case in Georgia, which eventually led to no charges being filed, dragged out in a very embarrassing public forum for him, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the NFL.
Police already spoke with six other Packers present at the condo -- quarterback Matt Flynn, safety Khalil Jones, guard Josh Sitton, fullback Korey Hall, and linebackers Brad Jones and Clay Matthews – and cleared them.
It comes down to the story of Underwood and the two women and any evidence that police may have found.
"(The) seventh did have contact with the two females," Sgt. Gerald Grimsled of the Lake Delton Police Department told the Journal Sentinel. "We were pretty sure of that. Everybody was cooperative.
"It comes down to 'was it consensual sex?' One side says yes, the other says no."
Soon, it will be up to the district attorney’s office to make that distinction.
