Report: Raiders think Derek Carr can push for starting job

Oakland's plan was to trade for quarterback Matt Schaub and let a rookie learn under him after it became apparant that Terrelle Pryor and Matt McGloin weren't going to start for them in 2014.

However, that plan may change.

According to a report from NFL.com, rookie quarterback Derek Carr has impressed the Raiders coaches enough early on that they are expecting him to compete for the starting job this summer.

If Carr ultimately completed that task, it would make it the second year in a row that the Raiders trade for a quarterback to start, only for him to become a backup. Last year, the Raiders acquired Matt Flynn, only for Pryor to beat him out in training camp.

Schaub should still be the early favorite to start in Week 1. But assuming Carr is up to task as this report states, Schaub will be looking over his shoulder early and often, and won't have much room for error.
