Report: Rams should have most picks signed by Monday
The St. Louis Rams knocked out a big business item last week when they finally reeled in veteran safety O.J. Atogwe, ensuring that one of the more talented players on the roster did not get away.
Now, the Rams can turn their focus to a draft class they hope will be at the front of a badly needed turnaround. The Rams have reportedly signed three draft picks over the weekend and according to Howard Balzer of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, the Rams “expect to have deals in place” for most of their 11 picks by Monday with the exception of No. 1 overall choice Sam Bradford and Rodger Saffold, the offensive tackle selected with the first pick of the second round.
That means there is plenty more business for the Rams to wrap up in the next day or so. The team has signed cornerback Jerome Murphy to a four-year contract. Murphy, the 65th overall pick, is the highest draft pick to sign a contract to date. Also signed were a pair of seventh-round draft picks – defensive end George Selvie and linebacker Josh Hull.
Getting the other later-round picks done will allow the Rams to keep their eye on the prize – Bradford. Clearly, the organization is motivated to have him in training camp on time.
