Report: Saints close to blockbuster deal for Jahri Evans

The New Orleans Saints waited to tender a qualifying offer to guard Jahri Evans with the hope they could work out a longterm extension for the Pro Bowl performer.

When they ran out of time to do that, they placed the highest tender possible on him – the first- and third-round tender – and then went back to the business of securing a multiyear contract.

That time could be coming soon. Very soon. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that a deal for Evans, one that could potentially make him the highest-paid guard in the history of the game, is nearly in place. That would be a big move for the Saints, who are limited in terms of what they can do in free agency. Securing Evans for the long haul would be a major home run. Stay tuned.
