Report: Saints made new offer to Drew Brees on Thursday

The New Orleans Saints revised a contract offer for Drew Brees on Thursday in hopes that stalled talks would gain some momentum.

According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen and Ed Werder, the Saints have been in communication with Brees’ agent Tom Condon this week after a “long period of relative silence.” Some reports have indicated a deal is imminent for Brees but those do not appear to be accurate. Still, everyone who has gone on the record is confident a deal will be in place before training camp. Brees just missed minicamp.

The sides are reportedly $2 million apart annually in the deal, and Brees would like an annual average of about $20.3 million. His franchise tag number for this season is $16.371 million.

The Saints are in desperate need of some positive news. Finally getting Brees done would accomplish that.
