Report: Saints nearly traded Pierre Thomas to Patriots
Frustrated New Orleans Saints running back Pierre Thomas nearly became a frustrated member of the New England Patriots.
Brian Allee-Walsh of NewOrleans.com reports that the Saints nearly pulled the trigger on a trade that would have shipped Thomas to the Patriots last month just before the NFL’s trade deadline.
Thomas has been sidelined for a month with a sprained ankle. Per Allee-Walsh, the teams discussed a trade on the eve of the Oct. 19 deadline. The Saints would have received a cornerback from the Patriots. When the Patriots wanted the Saints to sweeten the deal with the inclusion of a draft pick, the deal fell apart.
It’s interesting that the Saints would consider trading Thomas because their offense clearly has not been the same without him. The hope is he returns at some point this month.
