Report: Saints volunteer to play in Hall of Fame Game
Are you ready for some football?
The next game isn’t until Aug. 5 but we already know one of the contestants.
According to Alex Marvez of Fox Sports, the New Orleans Saints have volunteered to play in the Hall of Fame Game Aug. 5 in Canton, Ohio, putting the organization in town on the weekend longtime Saint offensive tackle Willie Roaf will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Roaf was voted in earlier this month and typically one or both clubs in the game have a player being inducted into the Hall. The league looks for volunteers to play the game because it doesn’t want to force teams to play a fifth preseason game.
Teams that play in the Hall of Fame Game are permitted to open training camp a week ahead of most of the rest of the league as clubs can open up 15 days prior to their first preseason game.
