Report: Seahawks play tag with Mare
Olindo Mare isn’t going anywhere.
The Seattle Seahawks have reportedly placed the franchise tag on him with less than 24 hours until the deadline to apply tags arrives.
Mare made 24-of-26 field goals last season. He will turn 37 in June, but as kickers have proven they can be effective into their 40’s. Plus, tagging a kicker isn’t a prohibitive thing when it comes to money. Mare will earn $2.814 million this season if a longterm extension is not worked out.
Mare has spent the last two seasons in Seattle and he was nearly as good in 2008 when he made 24-of-27 field goals. He also had 44 touchbacks over the last two seasons. With only five misses over the last two seasons, it marks the best stretch in his career since 2000-2001 when he made 47-of-52 attempts for the Miami Dolphins.
