Report: Seahawks' top choice is Pete Carroll
The Seattle Seahawks could be moving quickly to make a hire that would dramatically alter the college football landscape.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that the Seahawks’ No. 1 choice to replace ousted coach Jim Mora Jr. is USC coach Pete Carroll. The Seahawks are reportedly making an aggressive pitch to get Carroll on board quickly, and Mortensen reports that Carroll is encouraging Jeremy Bates to follow him to Seattle as the offensive coordinator.
If that happens, it would throw a wrench into the plans of the Chicago Bears, who have already contacted Bates about their vacant offensive coordinator position. Bates has a history of working with quarterback Jay Cutler in Denver, and while it’s impossible to say that Bates is the No. 1 choice of the Bears at this point, they’re interested in investigating him further.
ESPN also reports that the Seahawks reached out to Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier to interview him for the job and he declined. That’s telling right there, perhaps a sign that Frazier knows the job will be given to someone else, maybe Carroll.
Stay tuned because, at least at this point, the Seahawks are moving fast.
