Report: Seahawks will cut Marcus Trufant

With some fine emerging young cornerbacks the Seattle Seahawks are expected to announce today that veteran Marcus Trufant will be released.

Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times reports the club will cut the 31-year-old Trufant, the team’s first-round draft pick nine years ago.

Trufant was due to earn $4 million $7.2 million this season but he played in only four games in 2011 before a back injury forced him to injured reserve. He took a pay cut to stick with the team last year, per O’Neil, and Brandon Browner and Richard Sherman have emerged as fine young cornerbacks.

Trufant will become an unrestricted free agent as soon as the transaction is official.
