Report: Steelers weren't going to renew Arians' deal

The retirement of Bruce Arians as the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator apparently wasn't as voluntary as first believed.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Arians' retirement came about because the Steelers opted not to renew his contract as it ran out.

Arians had been the Steelers offensive coordinator since Mike Tomlin was hired as head coach in 2007. According to the story, sources said Tomlin had intended to keep Arians for 2012, and Arians had believed he would be back next season - until his curious "retirement."
