Report: Steve Smith wants Panthers to add playmakers
Steve Smith watched Super Bowl XLIV and got some ideas.
The Carolina Panthers could put pressure on defenses like the New Orleans Saints did. The Panthers could take it to opponents like the Saints did. The Panthers can build their roster like the Saints have.
“I've always said a team can never have too many playmakers," Smith told Tom Sorenson of the Charlotte Observer.
Smith made 65 receptions last season for 982 yards and seven touchdowns. The problem is Carolina hasn’t had much in the way of complementary targets, not since Muhsin Muhammad left for the Chicago Bears after the 2004 season. He’s a veteran possession receiver now, and the Panthers lack, well, playmakers to use Smith’s term.
“I would (like a faster receiver than me on the roster)," Smith said. "And I would complement him. I'm 30. I'd love to have a player faster than me."
Not a bad idea.
