Report: Thompson mulling front office structure
The Green Bay Packers are taking a wait-and-see approach on how to handle the departure of front-office executive John Schneider, who was named the general manager of the Seattle Seahawks this week, reports Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.
Schneider served as the director of football operations for the past two seasons and general manager Ted Thompson said he’s not sure if he needs to add another person to that post with Reggie McKenzie already holding such a title.
“We’re going to take our time,” Thompson said Friday. “We have really good people in place right now, and we’ll see how it goes. If we think we need to do something, we might do it. If we think we’re OK, we might just sit tight.”
Schneider had a hand in scouting both the professional and college ranks but the Packers already have others that are cross involved, including McKenzie. But Schneider had a heavier hand in college scouting and draft preparations are ramping up. Thompson said the situation is fluid and the Packers have been known to promote from within.
