Report: Umenyiora advised to have hip surgery
Osi Umenyiora is battling pain in his hip and has been told only surgery will improve the situation.
Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger reported that Umenyiora visited hip specialist Marc Philippon in Vail, Colo., earlier this summer and was told he will need surgery to repair the side effects from a torn hip flexor that originally sidelined him for five games back in the 2006 season.
Per Garafolo, Umenyiora had a surgery scheduled but then he, the Giants medical staff and Philippon agreed to put it off because Umenyiora will not make the injury worse by playing through it.
Umenyiora was sidelined at points during the offseason program and he will be forced to managed the pain this season while also battling to get the starting job back that he believes is his.
