Report: Vick to be tagged by Eagles

In the immediate future of the NFL – as in next month – the franchise tag will again be in play.

Whether or not it remains when the owners and players can reach agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement remains to be seen. Until then, expect Michael Vick to wear the tag. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the Philadelphia Eagles are set to place the tag on Vick. That will allow them to consider a longterm deal for Vick while they shop Kevin Kolb.

However, once the current CBA expires, no trades involving players will be permitted until a new agreement is in place, meaning trading Kolb could be difficult, especially with the Eagles seeking at least a first-round draft pick. Kolb has made it clear he wants to be a starter in 2011 but that will not be an option for him in Philadelphia.

The franchise tag could mean $20 million for Vick in 2011, and that figure right there tells you the team would probably like to reach a longterm agreement with Vick.
