Report: Vikings will put Cam Newton through private workout
The Minnesota Vikings have scheduled a private workout with Auburn quarterback Cam Newton even though it’s likely the Heisman Trophy winner will be off the board before they select with the 12th pick.
Of course, with an expected rookie wage scale in place, it could make it more likely that picks in the top 10 are traded this year. Clubs have tried to avoid the top picks in the past because the guaranteed money given to the draft picks got out of hand.
According to Gil Brandt of NFL.com, Newton has workouts scheduled with six teams. He worked out at the Auburn pro day on Tuesday. With the Vikings interested in Newton, it’s expected they will also examine Missouri’s Blaine Gabbert closely.
