Report: Winfield will see foot specialist
Minnesota Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield was a shell of his former self when he returned from an injury late in the season, and he will meet with a foot specialist in North Carolina in the next few weeks, according to Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Winfield missed six weeks in the middle of the season after he broke his right foot, and struggled after returning, particularly in an overtime loss at Chicago. He was eventually moved from left cornerback inside to nickel to reduce his workload, and the report states that he likely re-injured the foot in overtime of the NFC Championship Game loss at New Orleans.
Winfield underwent an MRI on Tuesday but coach Brad Childress tried to downplay the situation. The Vikings are already going to be without their other starting cornerback, Cedric Griffin, going into training camp. He suffered a torn ACL against the Saints making the loss painful moving forward, and perhaps making cornerback a priority in the draft.
