Rex Ryan expected to return as Jets coach

New York Jets coach Rex Ryan is expected to be retained by owner Woody Johnson, according to multiple reports.

ESPN reported that there are some remaining hurdles and it remains unclear if Ryan would just return for the final year of his current contract or be granted the extension he wants.

Per the report, Ryan and general manager John Idzik have gotten along well.

The assistant coaches' expiring contracts, including defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman, are expiring.

Ryan is 7-8 this season and 41-38 overall in his fifth season. The Jets reached the AFC championship game during his first two seasons.
