Rex Ryan: Why can't brother Rob Ryan get a head coaching job?

Obviously Rex Ryan is going to think highly of his brother.

But the numbers don't lie when it pertains to the season New Orleans defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has this past season. Rob Ryan took over a struggling Saints defense and turned it into the fourth-best in the NFL at 305.7 yards per game.

Yet Rob Ryan did not receive any buzz for for any of the open head coaching jobs. Brother Rex wants to know why.

“You tell me one other reason why he doesn’t have a [head-coaching job] right now with the kind of job he did,” Rex Ryan told the New York Post. “Maybe that’s it. I told him, ‘Dude, how about you go get a haircut? It makes no difference.’ I said, ‘You can wear the Fu Manchu if you’re bald.’"

Some reports have indicated that Rob Ryan's choice to wear long hair is a factor in why NFL teams don't want to interview him. Rex Ryan is perplexed by that notion.

But if that is what it is, well, Rex is going to try to get Rob to conform to the NFL's preferred style.

“I can’t explain it. Is it the hair? I don’t know," Rex Ryan said. "I’m trying to get him to get a haircut. Hopefully, this is one of the things that motivates him to do so."
