Rex's altercation with fan likely will lead to fine
Not only did Bill Belichick have his moment of swearing in Sunday night's win over the New York Jets, but Rex Ryan had one as well - directed at a fan.
The exchange occurred at halftime as the Jets were walking into the locker room, when a fan yelled, "Hey, Rex, Belichick's better than you."
Of course, that was the wrong thing to say to Ryan, who escalated the situation by telling the fan to "Shut the f--- up!"
On Monday, Ryan issued an apology for his retort.
"It was right [at] halftime. Obviously we made the mistake with the timeout, gave up the touchdown. I was emotional. It was an emotional time," Ryan said via the New York Post, which had video of the incident on its website. "I was coming in. You know, I, obviously, made a mistake.
"I was just … I was full of emotion and just popped off. Obviously, I know I represent the National Football League. I know I represent the Jets. I know it was a mistake. I apologize. This is who I am. I made a mistake. I'm about as big a competitor as there is. At that time, I was in no mood to hear anything. But I also understand I have to handle that better."
And probably as a reminder that he needs "to handle that better," Ryan will be hit with a hefty fine from the NFL sometime later this week.
