“Without a doubt” Robert Griffin III says he will be ready for the start of training camp with the Washington Redskins.

The quarterback, speaking after today’s OTA in Ashburn, Va., continued to push the timeline he has held for months as he rehabilitates from a reconstructed knee. Griffin continued to throw on the side with other injured players and did some running but he left little question he plans to be cleared for the real deal before camp arrives in late July.

“One it’s a mindset and two it’s how I felt and how it’s progressed,” Griffin said, according to John Keim of the Washington Exmainer. “Over the last three weeks I’ve had a lot of progress and I feel a lot better. Camp is a month, month and a half away. I feel really good about that and the start of the season is even farther than that. I feel good about that. That’s why I say without a doubt.

“It’s the right target if I’m healthy. If I’m ready to go week one then I’ll play. If I’m not ready to go then I can swallow my pride and not play. It’s that simple. That’s what I talked to coach (about). I told him I’ll be honest with him. If I feel I’m ready to go and there’s no doubt in my mind and I can play, then I’ll be ready to go. But if there’s an ounce of doubt or a minor setback then I won’t play.”

Griffin had surgery on Jan. 9 to repair a torn ACL as well as the medial collateral ligament and lateral collateral ligament in his right knee. That makes a return in late July very optimistic but maybe Griffin will follow a path blazed by Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson a year ago. We’ll have to wait and see.
