RG-3 vows to be ready for start of season

Robert Griffin III, speaking for the first time to assembled media this offseason, announced he hopes to be ready in time for the start of training camp in a little more than two months.

Griffin did not participate in Thursday’s OTA but did work on the side, including running and dropping back and throwing passes.

“My goal is to be out there for training camp (July 25),” Griffin said, according to Mark Maske of the Washington Post. “I want to be ready for Week 1. That’s my goal. … (But) I’m not going to risk my career to play one game.”

Griffin said his reconstructed right knee “feels great” and “I’m able to do all the stuff out there without any hesitation.”

At this point, he said there are two phases he has yet to get to in his rehabilitation – explosive sprinting, which he will begin in a couple weeks, and making cuts, a few weeks after that.

And when he’s back on the field in the regular season in live action?

“I can’t change my mind-set,” Griffin said, “but I can be smarter about what I do out there. It’s about limiting those hits, making sure I’m out there for my teammates. I understand I have to be more careful when it comes to that.”
