Robert Mathis tears Achilles, out for season
Facing a four-game suspension for using a banned substance, Colts outside linebacker Robert Mathis was forced to begin his own personal workouts to stay in shape for the 12 games he'd be able to play in.
On Monday, ESPN reported that Mathis tore his Achilles during a personal workout, with the NFL entering its second week of the season. Mathis will miss the 2014 season.
Some may place blame on the NFL for forcing Mathis to work out away from the team's facility. But injuries can happen any time and anywhere.
Mathis has maintained the substance found in his system was from a fertility drug, as he and his wife were trying to conceive. His appeal was denied as the NFL claimed he did not consult with doctors and the league about taking the drug.
