Rod Marinelli praises Michael Sam
It looks like Michael Sam is off to a good start with the Cowboys.
Though he's on the practice squad, defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli offered a lot of praise for the rookie out of Missouri that was drafted in the seventh round by the Rams. Sam did not make the Rams' 53-man rsoter and eventually signed with the Cowboys' practice squad.
“He’s done some good things,” Marinelli said, via The Dallas Morning News. “The only thing he really gets is some of our individual periods and then he gets some one-on-one rushes on Wednesday, and I think he’s gotten a little bit better.
“But it’s tougher for a practice squad guy because these other guys here, they’re pounding with all week long in terms of fundamentals and game-planning and those things. So it’s a little tougher, but he’s got movement. I like his quickness and his instincts. He’s got really good work habits, so just keep working to develop him.”
Sam still has an uphill climb as far as getting on the Cowboys' 53-man roster. But he has a much better chance of doing so there than in St. Louis, where the defensive line is stacked.
Sam was the 2013 SEC co-defensive player of the year.
