Rodger Saffold will participate in Rams offseason program
The St. Louis Rams couldn’t reach Rodger Saffold after the team signed Jake Long to take over at left tackle.
But Saffold plans to attend the club’s voluntary offseason workout program, which begins Monday, and start working his craft on the other side at right tackle. Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Saffold has let the club know he would not be opposed to a trade as he enters what will be the final year of his contract.
That scenario seems unlikely unless the Rams ignore more pressing needs in the draft and look to add a right tackle. But Thomas reports the club has been doing due diligence on right tackles in preparation for the draft. It could be the Rams do not wish to sink money into Saffold for the long haul after paying Long. Plus, Saffold is going to want to be paid like a left tackle and St. Louis has him on the other side for the time being.
It will be interesting to see if the Rams address the position in the draft with more than a developmental player.
