Ronde Barber gives Bucs some flexibility in secondary

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have some flexibility in their secondary if they wind up losing veteran cornerback Eric Wright for a period of time as he faces felony DUI charges in Los Angeles.

The Bucs have intended to play veteran Ronde Barber at safety this season but could shift him back to cornerback, according to Ira Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune. It’s too early to say if Wright will miss any time and if he wasn’t sidelined for long, perhaps the Bucs wouldn’t shift Barber.

Wright admitted to police officers after his two-vehicle accident that he had been drinking at the home of a friend in Hollywood. He was not injured and he declined to take a Breathalyzer.

The Bucs don’t have a lot of proven depth at cornerback but have Barber to give them flexibility. If he went back to cornerback, it could create an opening at safety for Cody Grimm.
