Ronde Barber will tie Bucs' record for longevity
Ronde Barber will tie Derrick Brooks for the most games played in Tampa Bay Buccaneers history on Sunday at Carolina.
It will be the 224th career game for the cornerback, who is in his 15th season. Barring something unexpected, Barber will hold the record by himself next week after the season finale at Atlanta.
"It's a reward for consistency, I guess,'' Barber according to Ira Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune.
Bucs coach Raheem Morris is hoping to see Barber return for a 16th season next year. He might need to be in the team’s plans if Aqib Talib is unavailable following his March trial on aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
“He's an iron man, our Cal Ripken Jr., so to speak,'' Morris said. "Ronde takes care of his body. He eats the right things, he does the right things, he practices the right way. If Ronde wants to play, we're going to want him back.
"I know I put a lot of pressure on (general manager) Mark Dominik when I say that, but good. It's not like Ronde has slowed down. He told me I should be the first person to tell him he can't play. I'm not prepared to tell him that yet because I'm finding more roles for him.''
