Ryan Fitzpatrick to start for Jets despite torn thumb ligament

The New York Jets will start quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick this week despite a torn ligament in his left, non-throwing thumb. Fitzpatrick will eventually require surgery. The Jets have lost two games in a row. "It's painful enough to get me out of changing diapers," Fitzpatrick said. "That's been the one positive." Jets coach Todd Bowles was impressed with Fitzpatrick's pain tolerance. "He looked fine," Bowles said. "He did everything."
