Saints add LB David Hawthorne
The New Orleans Saints are revamping their linebackers in a big way.
They continued in that effort today, signing David Hawthorne, a veteran run stuffer from the Seattle Seahawks, to a five-year contract, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. He will team with Curtis Lofton and Chris Chamberlain, other free-agent additions.
The 27-year-old can play all three linebacker positions and handles the run well. He has been trolling for a big contract. The additions have fueled speculation the Saints will be parting ways with Jonathan Vilma, the veteran who could potentially be implicated in Bountygate.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has yet to hand down discipline for players involved in the situation. The league has said Vilma put up personal money for a bounty on Brett Favre in the 2010 NFC title game.
