Saints are on the board with a draft pick

The New Orleans Saints are on the scoreboard.

The defending Super Bowl champions have been a little behind in taking care of things in a hectic offseason, but they’ve now gotten their first draft pick under contract. The club announced that defensive tackle Al Woods, a local product, has signed a four-year contract.

Woods, a fourth-round pick from LSU, will have a chance to state his case for a spot in the rotation during training camp. A native of Elton, La., he made 33 tackles for LSU last season.

He is the first of the Saints’ six draft picks to sign. The club is going to have to make roster moves to accommodate the next five as New Orleans’ roster is at the league maximum of 80 right now. That means five players must go to make room for the five rookies. The Saints are scheduled to begin training camp July 30.
