Saints' coaches, front office heading to Vegas before draft

The New Orleans Saints have planned a weekend trip to Las Vegas in advance of the NFL draft, according to ESPN.

No, they're not looking to relive "The Hangover."

The idea is to relax a bit before a draft that's taking place two weeks later than usual this year and a response to the idea that the additional preparation time is unnecessary.

The Saints, per the report, feel confident they've already gone over all the prospects many times and will get back to work Monday on the draft.

The Saints have done other things to break up the routine in the past with their players, including going to water parks, paintball or go-karts.

Why is the NFL draft being held in May? Ostensibly, it's because there was a scheduling conflict with an even at Radio City Music Hall. That didn't happen, though, due to lack of interest. The NFL said it was too late to shift it back to April. There's been plenty of views expressed that the NFL just wants to have the draft in May to increase interest.

The additional buildup doesn't seem to have had that effect, though, mostly just leading to impatience.
