Saints looking at young QB options
It would make sense if the New Orleans Saints eventually sign a veteran backup quarterback, but for now they are sorting through a growing group of inexperienced young players.
Chase Daniel, the record setter from Missouri, figures to be at the head of the pack after serving as a No. 3 for much of last season for the defending Super Bowl champions. Behind him is a cast that expanded by one after the
Saints signed hoopster-turned-quarterback Greg Paulus Saints took a look at hoopster-turned-quarterback Greg Paulus over the weekend at rookie minicamp. Also in the mix is Sean Canfield, the seventh-round pick this year from Oregon State.
"I think anybody that could be put in the same category as Drew Brees, that's something you want to be a part of,” Paulus told the New Orleans Times-Picayune. “He's just won a Super Bowl, he's had an unbelievable career in the NFL and just to be considered for something like that -- trying to be a part of his team -- that's something that I'd love to have."
Mark Brunell served as the primary backup to Brees last season. He’s drawn interest from the New York Jets, but remains very much in the picture in New Orleans. For the time being, the Saints will take a look at some No. 3 options.
