Saints place Chris Ivory on PUP list

Hopefully, this isn’t a sign of things to come.

The New Orleans Saints have placed running back Chris Ivory on the physically unable to perform list, meaning the running back will be on the shelf for at least the first six weeks of the season. Ivory led the team in rushing as a rookie a year ago with 716 yards and five touchdowns. The Saints went through eight running backs in 2010 they had so much difficulty keeping them healthy.

Ivory had foot surgery during the offseason. The Saints also placed running back Patrick Cobbs on injured reserve, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. The team still has quality depth at the position with Pierre Thomas, rookie Mark Ingram and free-agent pickup Darren Sproles, who is a replacement for Reggie Bush.
