Saints place Mark Ingram on injured reserve

The New Orleans Saints placed starting running back Mark Ingram on injured reserve with a shoulder injury. Ingram made the Pro Bowl last season. Ingram has been on the injury report with the shoulder injury for the past two weeks. "I really feel like over the last two years, especially, he's really come into his own, where I would consider him one of the top backs in the league, all-purpose, can do everything," Brees said. "And a great guy to be around too. I don't know if there's a guy that's more well-liked in our locker room. So if he is to miss time, obviously he's going to be missed." Ingram is a former Heisman Trophy winner who's rushed for 769 yards and six touchdowns and has 405 receiving yards. He rushed for 964 yards and nine touchdowns last season. The Saints promoted fullback Austin Johnson from their practice squad to fill Ingram's roster spot and added running back Bronson Hill to the practice squad.
