Saints quick to dismiss idea they'll move to Toronto

Considering ticket sales to NFL regular-season games in Toronto were sluggish before the Chicago Bears showed up to play the Buffalo Bills last November, it’s a little surprising the city to the north is making a clamor for an NFL franchise.

That’s just what Doug Ford, a brother of the Toronto mayor and a city councilor, did when he told TheScore.com that the Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints could be in play for relocation. The Jaguars certainly need to be considered for relocation and Los Angeles makes sense. But the Saints?

The New Orleans organization shot down the idea, according to James Varney of the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Reports about the Saints as a potential team moving to Toronto are completely false. The New Orleans Saints are committed to the city of New Orleans,” Saints vice president of communications Greg Bensel told Varney.

Ford glossed over the fact the Saints have a lease at the Superdome that runs through 2025. Saints owner Tom Benson also has strong business interests in Louisiana.
