Veteran defensive tackle Nick Fairley is signing a one-year contract with the New Orleans Saints after declining contract offers from the Texans, New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles, according to a source not authorized to speak publicly.
Fairley visited the Saints and Patriots.
Fairley, 28, is a former Detroit Lions first-round draft pick from Auburn who was selected 13th overall in 2011.
Fairley is listed at 6-4, 308 pounds, but got his weight down to the 280-pound range last season when he played for the St. Louis Rams.
Fairley had a half-sack last season while operating in a rotation last season for the Rams. He has 14 career sacks.
Fairley had 29 tackles last season.
In five NFL seasons, Fairley has 147 tackles, four forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.
