Saints to practice with Patriots prior to preseason game

The Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints will have a get-together with the New England Patriots before the two square off in the preseason opener for both teams Thursday, Aug. 12.

Per Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald, the Saints will arrive earlier in the week to participate in joint practices with the Patriots, probably on Tuesday of that week.

It is the second joint practice planned for the Patriots, who will travel to Atlanta early the following week to work out with the Falcons before a preseason game at the Georgia Dome. Seems like the old ritual of teams practicing together is catching on again. It used to be that teams in the Cheese League would scrimmage on a consistent basis. For many years, the Redskins and Steelers would get together as well.

Per the report, Saints coach Sean Payton has said he plans to ask Patriots coach Bill Belichick about how to deal with the season after a championship. This will give him an in-person opportunity.
