Saints will replace Carl Nicks with Ben Grubbs
The New Orleans Saints failed in their bid to keep All-Pro guard Carl Nicks, ultimately losing him to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who made a massive offer for the interior lineman.
In the end, the Saints might be better off though. They added a quality replacement today, signing Ben Grubbs to take Nicks’ spot. The five-year deal, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, is worth $36 million total and includes a $10 million signing bonus.
So, it’s not a small deal, but it certainly represents a savings over what Nicks was paid. Maybe the savings can be applied to a contract for Drew Brees as the quarterback has made it very clear he is not satisfied with the current situation and the franchise tag.
