Sam Bradford era will begin with opener in St. Louis
Unless you were fooled by the whole A.J. Feeley thing from the start, you expected Sam Bradford would begin the season as the starting quarterback for the St. Louis Rams.
So it should not come as a surprise that the No. 1 overall pick from Oklahoma was named as the starting quarterback today by Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo.
“Obviously I'm excited," Bradford said, according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “I feel like Coach has given me a great opportunity here to start next week vs. Arizona, but I realize that there's a lot of responsibility that comes with that opportunity.”
The Rams released Keith Null and will have Feeley and undrafted rookie Thaddeus Lewis behind Bradford.
“We're confident (in Bradford), the staff's confident, the team's confident,” Spagnuolo said. “It's well-deserved. He deserves this opportunity.”
Bradford played well in the third preseason game at New England with Feeley sidelined with a minor hand injury. He was poised and the main thing was he protected the football. Now, we’ll see how he can do behind a questionable offensive line.
