Sanchez back to being game manager

At 5-4 and on the road against the Denver Broncos, the New York Jets desperately need a victory to bolster their shaky playoff hopes.

Most teams in such a situation would like to rely on their team leader - the quarterback - to get the job done.

But New York Daily News columnist Gary Myers said the Jets just don't seem to have that needed trust in Mark Sanchez to put the game on his shoulders to win.

In speaking of Sanchez, Jets coach Rex Ryan said, "“I don’t think he’s regressed. I’m glad Mark is our quarterback.”

Yes, but apparently not glad enough to fully trust Sanchez to take over a game at crunch time.

As Myers points out, Sanchez has only made "baby steps' in his progress and is basically a game manager still at this point in his NFL career. Game manager is usually a nice way of saying "Don't screw anything up."

But on the road in a hostile environment against a suddenly resurgent Broncos team, Sanchez has the opportunity to take a big step forward if he can play well and play consistently.
