Sanchez extension basically locks him in as Jets QB

The New York Jets agreed Friday night to a three-year. $40.5 million extension with quarterback Mark Sanchez, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

"It gives the team just a reminder that I'm the leader of this team," Sanchez told the paper.

The move gives Sanchez $20.5 million in fully guaranteed money in 2012 and 2013, meaning he is locked in as the Jets starter for the next two seasons. Friday night's extension should also quell any further talk of Peyton Manning winding up in the same city as his brother Eli, because the Jets simply could not afford to tie up any more money to the quarterback position beyond upgrading the No. 2 spot.

That is rumored to be a possibility with ex-Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne, who knows offensive coordinator Tony Sparano's system from their days together in Miami.
