Schwartz won't rule Jahvid Best out for Sunday

Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz won’t rule Jahvid Best out for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons even though the running back is just three days removed from his second concussion of the season.

Best was knocked out of Sunday’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers with a head injury and also suffered a concussion in training camp. Still, Schwartz said there is a possibility Best could be cleared in time to play this week.

Oh, sure,” Schwartz said about the possibility of Best playing this week on WXYT-FM, according to the Detroit Free Press. “He just needs to pass all his things. But again, it’s a very objective test by neutral doctors. It’s a hot topic in the NFL over the last couple years, and I admire the NFL for the stance that they’ve taken for the long-term health of players. Concussions aren’t ignored anymore. Guys are very aware of what the symptoms are.”

That sounds like coach-speak there designed to make the Falcons at least consider Best could be in action this week. Best had a history of concussion issues at Cal and Schwartz is aware of that. This could be a big hurdle for the young running back. Hopefully, he does feel 100 percent soon.

Of course, after Schwartz's comments the Lions made a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles to acquire Ronnie Brown.
