Seahawks could be in search of help at wide receiver

The Seattle Seahawks could be in the market for help at wide receiver this week.

The team is dealing with a trio of injuries at the position right now as Braylon Edwards has a swollen knee, Ben Obomanu has a wrist injury and Doug Baldwin is battling a pesky high ankle sprain.

Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times reports it has put the club in a position where it has to consider options. Obomanu has seen a specialist and Baldwin is a longshot to return for this week’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. Edwards could be ready. The Seahawks have wide receiver Jermaine Kearse on their practice squad.

It could lead some to speculate Terrell Owens will be in the mix after his brief training camp stint with the club. But that might be the biggest longshot at this point.

The position has been a problem for the Seahawks all season as they roll through recycled veterans. If they’re going to continue to work to develop a young quarterback in rookie Russell Wilson, they are going to need to prioritize upgrading the position in the offseason. That means signings that make more sense than one-year wonder Sidney Rice.
