Seahawks home could be getting a new name

Qwest Field may not be what you think it is much longer.

The home of the Seattle Seahawks could be getting a new name.

That’s because Qwest and CenturyLink, telecommunication firms, had a merger approved by the FCC on Friday, a deal that will be finalized next month. The question is will the stadium soon become CenturyLink Field?

“Each Qwest-named venue will be evaluated to determine the appropriate re-branding implementation," CenturyLink spokesman Tony Timmons told Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times.

At least one change is already in the works. Qwest Center Omaha will be renamed after CenturyLink, according to the Omaha World-Herald.

The naming rights deal the Seahawks currently have with Qwest runs through 2014. So that means another name change might not be far off.
