Seahawks likely minus two top additions come Sunday
Two of the biggest additions made by the Seattle Seahawks this offseason are unlikely to be available Sunday.
It looks like wide receiver Sidney Rice and left guard Robert Gallery will not play in the season opener at the San Francisco 49ers. Gallery is listed as doubtful with a sprained knee and Rice is also likely so sit out with a lingering shoulder injury from training camp.
According to Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times, the absence of Gallery will force some tough decisions with young, inexperienced players on the offensive line. It’s not the way the team wants things to break up front for quarterback Tarvaris Jackson. Ben Obomanu will replace Rice.
"We're just young," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. "That's what it is. I'm thrilled about that. In one way to look at it, if these guys can go out there and play NFL football this early and if we can hold up and start growing, we're going to get way better."
