Seahawks, Lions make swap that includes Sims
Veteran guard Rob Sims signed the tender he received as a restricted free agent last Thursday with the plan being it would expedite his departure from the Seattle Seahawks.
The Seahawks went ahead and dealt Sims to the Detroit Lions today. He wasn’t the only player trading places. Defensive end Robert Henderson was sent from Detroit to Seattle. The Lions wound up with Sims and a seventh-round draft pick. The Seahawks got Henderson and a seventh-round pick. Henderson is a prospect who has yet to appear in a game. ESPN reported the Henderson portion of the deal.
Sims could battle for a starting position with the Lions. It would not be surprised if Detroit works to sign him to an extension as his tender is for this season only at $1.1 million. He was originally a fourth-round draft pick and apparently no one wanted to fork over a fourth rounder for him, not when they knew the Seahawks had asked him to stay away from the voluntary offseason workout program while the team engineered a deal for him.
