Seahawks look under the hood at Aubrayo Franklin
The Seattle Seahawks have bucked up on the defensive line this offseason with deals for Red Bryant and newcomer Jason Jones.
And now they’re at least sniffing around another player with a strong resume. The Seahawks hosted defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin on a free-agent visit, according to Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times. He’s a player the club is familiar with after his work in San Francisco. Just two years ago, the 49ers retained him with the franchise tag.
The 31-year-old has played the nose in a 3-4 defense and it would be interesting to see how he would transition in a 4-3 front. The Seahawks have spent considerably on the line and it’s reached the point of the offseason where it’s a buyers’ market. Clubs are looking for contracts for the veteran minimum.
It could be the Seahawks wanted to get acquainted with Franklin and then see what happens in the draft in two weeks. Players are reluctant to sign minimum deals at this point and many want to see if a better market develops after the draft.
