Seahawks reward Kam Chancellor with new contract

Three days before the start of the NFL draft, the Seattle Seahawks moved to lock up a big part of their future, agreeing with safety Kam Chancellor on a new contract.

Chancellor, who was set to enter the final year of his rookie contract, will have a news conference this afternoon, according to Mike Sando of ESPN.com. A fifth-round draft pick in 2010, he is an integral part of one of the best secondaries in the NFL.

It's a great day today," Chancellor wrote on his personal Twitter account earlier today before the news broke.

Paired with Earl Thomas, the former first-round draft pick, Seattle has terrific players at safety and their secondary was enhanced earlier this month by the addition of veteran cornerback Antoine Winfield.

UPDATE: According to ESPN's John Clayton, Chancellor will now earn $35 million over the next five seasons with $17 million guaranteed.
