Seahawks will start Russell Wilson Friday night

Will the Seattle Seahawks become the fifth team in the NFL to decide on a rookie quarterback for its season opener?

It’s certainly possible. The odds went up this morning when it was learned Pete Carroll will start third-round draft pick Russell Wilson in the preseason game Friday night at Kansas City. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the news.

Expectations have been free-agent addition Matt Flynn would win the job, and the competition took a turn when the Seahawks made the decision to trade veteran Tarvaris Jackson. A strong showing by the 5-foot-11 Wilson could land him the job for a team that already has a stout defense in place.

The Colts with Andrew Luck, Redskins with Robert Griffin III, Dolphins with Ryan Tannehill and Browns with Brandon Weeden have all made decisions to go with rookies at quarterback.
